About BeeComing Creations
Melissa received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia College in Columbia, South Carolina. Her passion is to create inspiring artwork on everyday items. She has a passion for enhancing everyday items around the house with unique pieces of art. Her pieces let you experience art every day and provide a great place to start a conversation.
Melissa’s husband Chris has a passion for woodworking and photography. Growing up, he was introduced to woodworking at a young age by his grandfather and his photography skills bloomed from years on high school and college yearbook staffs. His wood creations provide a base medium for Melissa’s artwork.
Her art pieces include:
Gift Tags – Are usually made from a base manila tag to which fabric, accessories, paint, and pen work is applied. Special shape tags are hand cut from a base cover stock material.
Cards – Card sets start with a blank base material, to which Melissa adorns with paint, colored pencil, fabric, or accessories.
Tile Coasters – The base is a tumbled tile to which the decoupage process is used to apply paper and fabric designs. The tiles are then sealed with an acrylic polymer and a cork base is applied to prevent scratching of surfaces.
Wooden Slice Coasters – Chris creates wood slices from logs that she paints or decoupages fabric to the surface and are then coated with clear acrylic topcoat to seal and protect the coaster from use.
Wooden Slice Ornaments – Chris creates these smaller wooden slices that she paints and adds a string for hanging the ornament on the Christmas tree.
Wooden Slice Magnets – Small wooden slices are used to create decorated magnets
PVC Birdhouses – Chris creates birdhouses from six-inch PVC pipe and piling caps to create a long lasting, weather proof birdhouse. She paints these birdhouses in acrylic paint with a clear coat finish to protect the design if the birdhouse is used outside.
Wooden Birdhouses – Chris create wooden birdhouses that she paints with unique designs. Many clients have made special requests to have her make custom designs for special occasions.
Gourd Birdhouses – Naturally grown gourds are hand painted with her designs. In addition, she uses pens to enhance the details in the designs.
Wooden Signs – Chris creates blank boards or plywood to create unique designs. She uses paint, paper, fabric, and pen work to create each unique sign.
Wooden Toolboxes – Chris began making wooden toolboxes for their two boys who are now grown, and she began using the toolboxes for a medium for her art. Each toolbox is made from plywood and measures approximately 12 inches long, 6 inches wide, and 8 inches tall with a wooden dowel as a handle. Melissa hand paints each toolbox with acrylic paint and seals them with a clear finish.
Magnets – Chris creates wood slices from logs that she paints or decoupages fabric to the surface and are then coated with clear acrylic topcoat to seal and protect the magnet from use.
Special Requests – Any item that can be used as a medium to apply a design. Some examples of past special requests include photo album book covers or furniture.
She uses a combination a material like fabric scrapes, paper, paint, color pencils, and pens to create unique one of a kind gift items that can be used throughout the home.
